Of course, there's another Biblical ark, the Ark of the Covenant. It's not what I had in mind with the blog's name change, but it's actually another profound and necessary metaphor for the church.
The church should become an ark in this sense as well, because the Ark of the Covenant was a structure within which the presence of God was perceived, and from which the power of God was made manifest. It was separate from, yet present and mobile within the community, giving it faith and courage. Although God's power was manifested within it, there is no sense anywhere in scripture that God's special presence within the ark meant that He was not present elsewhere - indeed everywhere.
Oh that we might be able to say the same about Unitarian churches.
You can read about it the Ark of the Covenant in Exodus, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 & 2 Chronicles. It also gets referenced in the Psalms and Jeremiah, as well as in the Apocrypha, in 2 Maccabees.
